Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir, has been recognised by UNESCO as a Creative City of Crafts & Folk Arts since November 2021, and was accredited as a World Craft City by the World Crafts Council in 2024 - a rare double honour that places it among the world's great centres of living crafts, within the prestigious UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

Kashmir Silk Carpets & Rugs
The Kashmir silk carpet carries a centuries-old tradition shaped by Persian, Central Asian and Mughal influences. Among the natural fibres, silk is the most luxurious and strong. Organic mulberry silk is the finest with sheen looks, it comes from cocoons of silkworms fed on mulberry leaves. Our carpets in silk and fine wool are made in oriental and floral designs- tree of life, paisleys, guldar (roses), birds, chinar leaves (alpine) etc besides Persian influenced designs like Kashan, Hamdan, Qom etc
Variants include Silk-on-Silk, Silk-on-Cotton, Fine wool, Pashmina. The Quality indicators include the following:
- 100% hand-knotted, knot by knot
- Quality mulberry silk, fine wool and even pashmina
- Knot densities from 225 to 784 or upto 1296 knots per square inch
- Design uniformity, true Azo-free colours and fine finish
- GI authentication mark with overall quality and weaver’s details
Museum-Grade Masterpieces
We also preserve the world's textile heritage by recreating limited editions of exceptional, museum-grade and collectors'-choice silk and pashmina carpets. Given the scarcity of artisans capable of such work, only a very limited number of pieces are made in a year. Enquiries are welcome.
Pashmina Ikat, Sozni & Kani Shawls
Kashmir pashmina is the pashm fibre of the Changthangi goat (Capra hircus) of the Ladakh region - India's northernmost reaches. The Kani shawl is made by twill-tapestry weaving: in place of a shuttle, the weaver uses dozens or even hundreds of small yarn-wrapped wooden bobbins, locally called kanis, inserting individually to weave intricate patterns, thread by thread. It takes six months to one year to complete a Kani shawl depending on design intricacy & colours.
The Sozni shawl is adorned by fine needle-work embroidery. Whileas, in Ikat Shawls yarns are tie-dyed before weaving and when woven together, the pattern oftently appears slightly blurred. Common in textile traditions across Asia, Middle East, and parts of Latin America. Only in Kashmir fine Pashmina yarn is used for its distinctive charm, fineness and feel. Unlike prints, two Ikat pieces can never be similar like finger prints.

Chain-Stitch & Crewel Furnishings
Part of UNESCO recognised Srinagar craft heritage, Kashmir Chain-stitch, locally known as aari embroidery or jalakdozi, a special hooked needle guided over fabric, is a traditional hand-embroidery, intricate in style showing dense textured designs, inspired by nature, in rugs, shawls, wall hangings, throws, furnishings etc. No space is left open on the base cloth, it is all-over.
In crewel work, by contrast, the base cloth remains partially visible; long and short stitches in woollen thread create a gently raised effect - favoured for curtains and upholstery.

Certified Genuine Kashmir Hand-Knotted Carpet
Our silk, wool and niche pashmina carpets are scientifically tested by the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology, Srinagar, under the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, India.
Carpets that pass are GI tagged under the Geographical Indications (Registration & Protection) Act, 1999 - each label carrying a QR code for online verification of the material, knots per square inch, pile height, the weaver's name and locality, and the overall quality of the piece.
Genuine 100% Kashmir Pashmina
Pashmina Kani, Sozni and Ikat shawls and apparels are certified at the Pashmina Testing & Quality Certification Centre of the Craft Development Institute, Srinagar, under the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.
Passed products are certified and tagged as Genuine 100% Kashmir Pashmina - under the registered Geographical Indications "Kashmir Pashmina", "Kani Shawl" and "Sozni Kashmir". Our vertical, Imperial Shawls & Apparels, holds the Authorised User Certificate for all three marks.
